Historical Background

East of the Söyembikä Tower is a lookout platform with a view of the Palace of Farmers. It isn't a historic building: construction began in 2008 and finished in 2010. Today the palace is the headquarters of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Tatarstan and an example of how skillfully Kazan blends history and modernity, including in its architecture.

About the Architecture

In the central arch of the facade stands a bronze tree about 20 meters (65 ft) tall. It has no leaves, but in the evening it is lit with green light that imitates foliage. The tree symbolizes fertility and prosperity. The building's architecture mixes Classicism, Empire style, Baroque and Eastern motifs.
