Architectural Features
Locals nicknamed the house at 44/11 Ordzhonikidze Street the “House Under a Napkin.” The name comes from its central four-sided turret, which has no equal anywhere in Kimry or the surrounding area. The turret has two pyramidal tiers, a large one and a small one, joined inside by a wooden rod. The lower tier has four round dormer windows. The base of the upper tier is framed by a carved wooden band made of alternating “earring” pendants, which gives the whole upper part a light, airy look. As a result, the upper tier seems to hover over the lower one, like the lace napkin that restaurants sometimes drape over a dessert when serving it. The “napkin” once had a wooden spire, but it has since been lost.
