When the Land Spoke

In 2025 the residents of Sikachi-Alyan, with the support of the local community self-government body, carried out the “Land of the Jurchens” project to solve a long-standing problem: there was no sign pointing to the famous petroglyphs, which are listed as a cultural heritage site of Russia.

A Sign Born of the Ancestors' Voice

After a survey in which 90% of villagers supported the initiative, a memorial sign of artificial stone was installed at the entrance to the village. It bears the silhouette of a deer echoing the ancient rock carvings and the inscription “Petroglyphs. Sikachi-Alyan.” The symbol has become not just a landmark but a greeting from the land of the Jurchens, the ancestors of the Nanai: “Welcome!”

A Gateway to the Ancient World

The sign completed the landscaping of the entrance area, creating an atmosphere of immersion in the world of ancient symbols, shamanic rituals, and the traditional culture of Indigenous peoples. It links the eras, from the times when stones kept the memory of ancestral spirits to the present day, when the community carefully preserves this heritage.

Made Together

The project was made possible by the active participation of residents, their enthusiasm for work, and close cooperation with local government. “Land of the Jurchens” is not just a name but an invitation to stop, listen, and feel the unbreakable bond between generations.
