History of the Site
The Alley of Recognition is on the pedestrian section of Prospekt Mira, one of Kostroma's central streets. It's a relatively new attraction, similar in style to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Plaques bearing the names of people who contributed to the town's development are set into the paving stones. There are plaques dedicated to Kostroma's founder Yury Dolgoruky, Tsar Michael Romanov and the folk hero Ivan Susanin. New plaques are unveiled every year for City Day. Recently a plaque honoring the poet N. A. Nekrasov was added. His family estate of Greshnevo lay near the Kostroma province, and the literary classic often came to town and sought inspiration in the nearby villages. The alley is also a great place to relax on a hot day, with benches and linden trees.
