Historical Background

The Fifteenth Element museum and exhibition complex opened in 2019 on the premises of a former aluminum plant. The plant closed in 2012, and production of phosphate fertilizers started on its site. The fifteenth element in Dmitri Mendeleev's periodic table is phosphorus — hence the name of the interactive center. The exhibitions are devoted to the plant and its founders, and an alley of chestnut trees leads to a water tower built in the 1920s. The water tower stood unused for many years; today it houses an interactive learning center where visitors can learn about the development of Russian chemistry and mineralogy through games.
