Historical Background
In the 16th century the area of today's Victory Avenue in Vologda was a wasteland behind the trading rows, on the outskirts of the defensive moats of the kremlin (Nason-gorod) being built on Ivan the Terrible's orders. The streets here — Gostinodvorskaya, Gromovskaya and Tsarekonstantinovskaya — appeared only two centuries later, when the city was replanned on a regular grid in the 18th–19th centuries.
