Historical Background

The building of the former Likhvin treasury is a two-story brick building constructed in 1810 to a design by the architect Ivan Denisovich Yasnygin. It is a cultural heritage site, built in the Classical style in accordance with the town's Regular Plan of 1779. Today it houses the Likhvin Antiquities museum of the Devyagorsk-Likhvin Historical and Landscape Museum-Reserve and the Likhvinsky Dvorik (“Likhvin Courtyard”) café.

Architecture

The construction was carried out by the Likhvin merchant P. A. Pronin, and the building was put into use in November 1810. The U-shaped building has strict geometric forms, a flawless composition, and well-balanced proportions, all hallmarks of Classicism, the architectural style widely used by Yasnygin's teachers, Vasily Bazhenov and Matvey Kazakov. More about its history: Until 1917 the building housed the treasury, as intended. In the Soviet period it housed the district bank, the district executive committee, and one of the buildings of the Chekalin school.
