Historical Background

The memorial cross was erected in 2010 in memory of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior, destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1937. More about its history: The Church of the Transfiguration was built in 1784 by Pyotr Afanasievich Pronin. It was a stone church with a bell tower and a surrounding wall, and it had an almshouse. It had three altars: of the Transfiguration of the Lord; of Sts. Athanasius and Cyril, Archbishops of Alexandria and Wonderworkers; and of the Holy Great Martyr Paraskeva.
