Historical Background
The chapel was built in 1913 in honor of the 300th anniversary of the House of Romanov, on the site of an old chapel that had stood there since before the Russian viceroyalties were created. Its historical role: the chapel was used for Orthodox services, including as a prayer house for soldiers on their way from the barracks (which stood on the site of today's dairy plant) to the mess hall.
