Historical Background
The Church of the Savior and the Presentation was built in 1821 to commemorate the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812, on the initiative and at the expense of the landowner Rtishchev. More about its history: Earlier the site was occupied by the St. Michael Maleinos Monastery, founded in the 16th century. In 1937 the church was closed and its bell tower destroyed; a workshop was set up in the main building. In 1988 the building was returned to the Diocese of Tula. A charter of Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich from 1615, signed by the clerk Matvey Somov, has survived; under it the monastery was granted the ferry crossing and fishing grounds near the town of Likhvin to pay for candles and incense.
