Shlisselburg is an old town 50 kilometers (31 miles) from St. Petersburg. Its name means “key town,” and it has stood here for more than 700 years. That's reason enough to visit and see with your own eyes the “Russian Bastille” of Peter the Great's era, centuries-old canals, and a stunning sunset over the Neva. The route was designed especially for the BelkaCar car-sharing service.

War and Ships

Five minutes from the pier, at the intersection of Chekalova and Zhuka Streets, stand anti-aircraft and artillery guns. Don't be alarmed: this is an open-air museum. The exhibition opened in 2005 for the 60th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. On display are guns removed from ships and restored at the Nevsky Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Plant. Admission is free, and you can touch all the exhibits.
