Historical Background

Every town in Russia has a monument to Lenin, sometimes two. But there are only four monuments in the country showing him together with Nadezhda Krupskaya, and one of them is here, in the village of Yaropolets. In 1920 Lenin and Krupskaya came to Yaropolets to help the villagers set up a hydroelectric power station. To mark the visit, a photo was taken with local residents, and it became the basis for the sculpture.

About the Sculpture

The monument consists of two busts on two columns, with Vladimir Lenin and Nadezhda Krupskaya both wearing hats. Because of the resemblance, locals have nicknamed the monument “Chupa Chups”, after the lollipops.
