The name Tikhvin sounds soft and brings to mind something “quiet” (tikhy in Russian), like river water. And that's no accident: translated from a Finno-Ugric language, tikh and vin mean “water” and “way.” On this route you'll learn how life flowed, and sometimes seethed, in this “water” town. The route was designed especially for the BelkaCar car-sharing service.

Historical Background

On the bank of the Tikhvinka River lies a large new park, the Park of Generations. It was created in 2018 as part of the national project “Creating a Comfortable Urban Environment.” By the shore there is a wooden deck with a row of deck chairs, a sports area with a volleyball court and table tennis tables, and a picnic and barbecue area. You can also visit the viewing platform, which offers a beautiful view of the Mother of God Monastery and the river.
