Historical Background
The N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov State House Museum opened here, in the composer's birthplace, in 1944, for the centenary of his birth. The core of the exhibition consists of the Rimsky-Korsakov family's personal belongings, objects of gentry life, furniture, and vocal scores and full scores bearing the composer's autograph. The house also holds an original instrument, N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov's Becker grand piano. Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Stravinsky, and Scriabin played it, and Fyodor Chaliapin sang beside it.
