Historical Background
The former Rekon Chapel is a 19th-century architectural landmark. It was built in 1878 by the architect M. A. Shchurupov. It has a facade with a large decorative cornice and a tent roof topped by an onion dome. The chapel's historic appearance was partly lost because of poor-quality alterations in the 1960s. The most recent renovation restored a small part of the historic finishes, and the chapel is active again. Today it is called the Chapel of Alexander Nevsky.
