Historical Background

Construction of the pharmacy began at the end of the 18th century. The building was part of the ensemble of the Board of Public Charity, which ran various social institutions: schools, hospitals and almshouses. The pharmacy opened its doors in September 1805 and remained in business until 2010.

Architecture

The pharmacy was built in the Classical style, known for its austerity and elegance. Tall windows and columns make the building very handsome.

Fun Fact

The Vladimir pharmacy was considered the longest-running pharmacy in Russia. Today the building houses a museum of pharmacy with more than 100 rare pharmaceutical exhibits. The interior is filled with 18th–19th-century furniture from a private collection.
