Historical Background
Traction Substation No. 11 on the Fontanka Embankment was built in 1932 in the Constructivist style. From December 1941 to April 1942 electric transport did not run: there was only enough electricity for factories and hospitals. When service was restored, the tram lines drew power from Substations No. 11, 15, and 20. For the 60th anniversary of the lifting of the Siege, a memorial plaque was installed on the substation building. The building itself remained in operation until 2014, after which it was listed as a protected cultural heritage site.
