Historical Background
The monument stands in the courtyard of School No. 210 at 14 Nevsky Prospekt. On the pedestal of the globe is a plaque with lines by the Siege poet Yuri Voronov, which call on future generations to remember the Siege so that the events of those years never happen again. Inside the monument are loudspeakers that are switched on for special occasions, including Knowledge Day, the first day of school. The school itself houses the “Leningrad Under Siege” museum. The museum opened on January 27, 1973, marking the 30th anniversary of the lifting of the Siege.
