A Lovely Place to Rest in the Shade
The trail rewards its visitors with viewing platforms with boardwalks and railings that show this wonder of Khabarovsk District from another, equally picturesque angle. From here the water, covered with leaves and pink lotus flowers, takes on a different hue. From this spot you can especially well see water rails and teal bustling among the water lilies and lotuses, dragonflies darting above the thickets, and those same storks flying about and nesting as they look out for small fish. Nearby stands a tree whose shade invites a little picnic. It is an old larch with a spreading crown: it is always cool beneath it, and nuthatches and great tits often call to each other in its branches. It is a good place to sit in silence, listening to the gentle lapping of the water and the birdsong, and now and then watching a squirrel or chipmunk run down the trunk, drawn by the smell of food.
