“A piece of Heaven on Far Eastern soil”: that is what the sisters call their convent, which stands in a picturesque spot on the shore of Lake Petropavlovskoye. The bell tower offers a breathtaking view of the lake's blue waters, emerald forests, and endless open plains. The idea of founding a monastery in the Amur region goes back to St. Innocent (Veniaminov). It began to take shape under Bishop Makary (Darsky), who invited Hieromonk Alexy (Oskolkov) from Mount Athos. In 1894 Hieromonk Alexy began searching for a site for the monastery, but the chosen place flooded and a new one had to be found. The modern convent was founded in 2001 under Bishop Mark (Tuzhikov). Today it is a flourishing community with churches, workshops, and farm buildings.

Harmony of Stone and Spirit: The Architecture

The refectory building's architecture fits naturally into the monastic complex. It is designed in a classic Orthodox style that underscores its sacred purpose. Its main mission is to feed the sisters and guests in accordance with the monastic rule, and the rules of fasts and feast-day meals are strictly observed here. The simple, functional interior creates an atmosphere of peace. The light tones of the spacious hall promote calm, and cleanliness and order maintain its dignified beauty. The spiritual essence of the meal is expressed in special traditions: prayers before and after eating, reverent silence, or uplifting conversation turn an ordinary meal into a sacred rite.

Open Doors: Hospitality as a Calling

Pilgrims are warmly welcomed at set hours. Here you can not only nourish the body but also share in monastic life and gain spiritual knowledge from the sisters. The refectory unites the material and spiritual sides of monastic life, a living embodiment of hospitality and sisterly love.
