“A piece of Heaven on Far Eastern soil”: that is what the sisters call their convent, which stands in a picturesque spot on the shore of Lake Petropavlovskoye. The bell tower offers a breathtaking view of the lake's blue waters, emerald forests, and endless open plains. The idea of founding a monastery in the Amur region goes back to St. Innocent (Veniaminov). It began to take shape under Bishop Makary (Darsky), who invited Hieromonk Alexy (Oskolkov) from Mount Athos. In 1894 Hieromonk Alexy began searching for a site for the monastery, but the chosen place flooded and a new one had to be found. The modern convent was founded in 2001 under Bishop Mark (Tuzhikov). Today it is a flourishing community with churches, workshops, and farm buildings.

A Majestic Church on Far Eastern Soil

On May 20, 2006, a landmark event took place in the spiritual life of the Amur region: the solemn consecration of the convent's first church, dedicated to the Holy Chief Apostles Peter and Paul. Built in the distinctive style of 12th-century Old Russian architecture, the church became a true jewel of the Metropolis of Priamurye, adorning the Far Eastern land with its majestic form.

Architectural Perfection and Spiritual Riches

Authentic and majestic: that is how one might describe the architecture of this remarkable church. Of special value is its five-tier iconostasis, created by the talented hands of the convent's sisters. The icons painted by the nuns fill the church with special spiritual power and beauty, creating a unique atmosphere of prayerful peace.

Holy Relics That Preserve Grace

The church's spiritual treasury includes priceless relics: a reliquary with 32 fragments of relics of God's saints. Among the most revered holy objects are a crucifix containing a stone from the Holy Sepulchre and an icon of St. Nicholas of Japan, Equal-to-the-Apostles, with a fragment of his relics, presented to the convent by the Japanese Autonomous Orthodox Church. The old icons of the Mother of God “Pantanassa” (“Queen of All”) from the 18th–19th centuries and of the Savior and the Mother of God “Enthroned” from the 19th century are of both artistic and historical value. The church also keeps icons of saints with fragments of their holy relics: the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, St. Sergius of Radonezh, and the Great Martyr Catherine.
