The Hekhtsir foothills lie at the foot of the Hekhtsir range in Khabarovsk District, roughly 12–30 kilometers (7.5–19 miles) south of Khabarovsk. The range rises above the Amur-Ussuri Lowland, a land beautiful for its variety of forests, rivers, and fields. On this motor route, visitors and Far East residents alike can enjoy a unique encounter with the untouched nature of the Russian Far East.

The route leads to the picturesque Levaya (“Left”) River, a winding silver thread that gently skirts the pine forest and carries its waters through the taiga toward the open spaces of the Far East. In winter its calm surface turns into a reliable ice road, along which ATVs glide confidently, leaving only a thin track on the snowy edge.
They say the Levaya River is a tear of Hekhtsir. When the shaman Kheekchir went away into the mountains, he left this water behind so that travelers could cleanse themselves before entering the sacred lands. Old hunters say that whoever fords the river with a pure heart will have luck on the road, while the water will hold back anyone driven by greed.
The bridge was probably built in the mid-to-late 20th century to link rural roads. Time has not been kind to it: the water has gradually wrecked the structure. It is still standing but is in a dangerous condition, and crossing it is officially prohibited.
There is also a stone ford across the river, which you can easily cross on foot or by vehicle. During floods, however, when the water rises, it is best to give up the idea.
