The Hekhtsir foothills lie at the foot of the Hekhtsir range in Khabarovsk District, roughly 12–30 kilometers (7.5–19 miles) south of Khabarovsk. The range rises above the Amur-Ussuri Lowland, a land beautiful for its variety of forests, rivers, and fields. On this motor route, visitors and Far East residents alike can enjoy a unique encounter with the untouched nature of the Russian Far East.

The Climax

The road up the hill is a swift but steady climb that creates a feeling of “takeoff.” And here it is, the goal of the whole journey. This summit is a key node of the landscape, combining natural beauty, practical importance, and historical and cultural value. It offers not only a wide view of the surroundings but also a deep understanding of how the regional landscape is structured.

What Makes the Heights Special

Even such a modest elevation, small compared with the Hekhtsir ranges, is an excellent habitat for birds (larks, quail, and birds of prey that hunt from lookout points). It is also a barrier against erosion: plant roots keep the soil from washing away. It is just as good a place to rest as the Panoramic Ridge, but in winter temperatures here are especially low, which makes camping overnight difficult.
