Overview

One of Grozny's most recognizable landmarks and a symbol of the city. This architectural centerpiece appears in almost every photo of Grozny. Historical Background The complex was built between 2007 and 2011. In a short time seven high-rise buildings went up: a 40-story tower (the Phoenix), a 30-story one, three 28-story ones, and two 18-story ones (housing apartments, a hotel, and a business center).

The Phoenix

The tallest building in the complex, the Phoenix, is a 40-story residential tower with a clock, originally called the Olymp. In 2013 a fire broke out in the Olymp. Fortunately, finishing work was still under way and no one was hurt. After restoration the building was renamed after the mythical bird that is reborn after death.

Observation Deck

On the roof of the business center is an observation deck that can also serve as a helipad. You can go up and enjoy the view of Grozny for just 100 rubles.

Fun Facts

The Chechen Republic boasts the largest clock in Russia, almost twice the size of the Kremlin chimes. It is mounted on the 42-story Grozny City tower at a height of 145 meters (476 feet). Together with its mechanism it weighs just over five metric tons. Its clear diameter is almost 14 meters (46 feet), and its hands are 7.5 meters (24.6 feet) long: the minute hand weighs 400 kilograms (880 pounds) and the hour hand 250 kilograms (550 pounds). The clock and the whole Grozny City complex were officially opened on October 5, 2011, for Grozny Day. Jean-Claude Van Damme, Hilary Swank, Vanessa-Mae, Sergei Bezrukov, Fyodor Bondarchuk, and others came for the concert.
