Historical Background
This small, cozy church is practically the same age as Grozny: it was founded in 1868 by Terek Cossacks. It was built with public donations and consecrated in 1892. Services in the church have never stopped since then. In Soviet times it was one of only two working Orthodox churches in the Chechen-Ingush ASSR. In 2008–2009, during the reconstruction of central Grozny, its domes were gilded, the roof was covered with cherry-red metal tiles, the white-and-blue walls were painted white, and the church was finished with dark red marble tiles. Services in the Church of the Archangel Michael are held every Sunday and on feast days.
