Overview

Today Minutka Square can be called Grozny's calling card. Here stand domed high-rises designed by famous Azerbaijani architects. A complete reconstruction of the square was finished in 2022. The main attraction of the renewed Minutka is a unique spiral-shaped structure, a high-definition LED screen, which shows public service videos, footage about Chechen history and culture, and more.

Myths and Legends

One of the city's landmark squares divides roughly in half the Avenue of Akhmat-Khadzhi Kadyrov, First President of the Chechen Republic and Hero of Russia. According to one local legend, the name took hold back in Soviet times at the wish of local residents. At that time a narrow-gauge railway ran through the city. Where Minutka Square is now, there was a stop where the train halted for just one minute, hence the name Minutka (“Just a Minute”).
