You enter the kremlin by climbing a staircase through an arch formed by an old brick footbridge. It offers a nice view of the town and many of the buildings on the Val (the Rampart). The Val is a natural hill that was built up by hand. This is where the Volokolamsk kremlin once stood.
You can carefully climb onto the bridge and take in the whole of the Val. A Volokolamsk resident could live out an entire life cycle here: hospital, school, cathedrals, court, prison. We are about to explore the most important part of the town's history. Let's go!
