In 2023, 8 stereoscopes were installed in the tourist center of Tver. A stereoscope is a binocular optical device for viewing “three-dimensional” photographs. These show lost buildings, streets, and views of the city.
And every photo has its own story. Take, for example, the image of the Church of the Miracle-Working Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God from the collection of A. N. Semenov, a philocartist* and researcher of the history of Tver photography. The Vladimir Church stood at the corner of Sovetskaya Street and Studenchesky Lane. Its slender bell tower crowned with a spire was built in the mature Classical style that appeared in Tver architecture in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. In the 1930s the church was blown up. You can read detailed information about the lost church by pointing your phone at the QR code on the stereoscope. Today the site is occupied by the Seliger Hotel, as well as the Zebra casino and a host of small shops and businesses. Yet relics of the most famous and revered saints were once kept in the church that stood here. *Philocarty is the collecting of illustrated postcards. Tver stereoscopes with lost views: 1. View of the Otroch Monastery (Stepan Razin Embankment, near No. 16). 2. Kindergarten Square with the Lutheran church (A. S. Pushkin Square). 3. The City Duma (7 Sovetskaya Street, next to the Budweis bar). 4. Octagonal Square, the court (Lenin Square, by the City Administration building, 11 Sovetskaya Street) 5. The Ermitazh cinema (14 Tverskoy Prospekt, by the Belaya Roza medical center) 6. View of the Church of Elijah the Prophet (Tverskoy Prospekt, by No. 15) 7. The Vladimir Church (17 Sovetskaya Street, next to the military prosecutor's office, almost opposite the Universal store) 8. The Church of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women (Radishchev Boulevard, opposite No. 13).
