Historical Background

Andrei Dementyev, a Soviet and Russian poet and radio and television host, also known as a songwriter, was born on July 16, 1928. Many years of the poet's life were bound up with the Tver land. He was born here, finished school here, and studied at the pedagogical institute. He was an honorary citizen of the city and of Tver Region and wrote the lyrics of Tver's anthem.

About the Monument

The monument stands on the bank of the Volga. It is a single ensemble made up of two main parts: a sculpture and granite books. The books represent collections of the poet's works, lines from which nearly everyone knows today.
