Historical Background

The bridge was ceremonially opened on September 8, 1900. The Old Volga Bridge was the first permanent bridge across the Volga in Tver. In 1941, during the occupation, the bridge was blown up. After the city was liberated, its restoration began.

In its outline, the Old Volga Bridge resembles the Liberty Bridge across the Danube in Budapest.
