Kremlin Embankment, the Black Bull, and Tomatoes

We come out onto the bank of another river, the Krymza. This is where it flows into the Syzranka. Here the Krymza spreads wide, forming a kind of pocket (karman in Russian). Local people used to call this stretch of water Karmanovka.

The Embankment

The embankment is made up of many leisure areas for sports, play, strolling, and more. A Moorish (flowering meadow) lawn has been sown here and 132 trees of various species planted: Norway maples, lindens, chestnuts, spruces, and dwarf Karelian birches.

The “Black Bull”

The recreation area is decorated with Corten steel art objects: the town's symbol, the “Black Bull,” strides proudly along the embankment past silhouettes of Syzran's landmarks. You can learn about each landmark from the QR codes placed on them.

Tomato Chairs

Cafés and kiosks operate on the embankment. Along the central path lies a whole scattering of bright tomatoes, another of Syzran's symbols: this is the shape the designers gave to the chairs.

Historical Background

The people of Syzran had long dreamed of a beautiful, well-kept embankment. And in 2019 “the ice finally broke,” and the dream gradually began to come true. First on paper, as a project called “History on the Bank of Three Rivers.” The project envisioned three embankments. The first stage, the Kremlin Embankment, the area around the Syzran Kremlin, was carried out in 2020 thanks to the town's victory in 2019 in the All-Russian Competition of Small Towns and Historic Settlements. The Kremlin Embankment was fully opened in 2021.
