Historical Background
The Church of the Dormition is one of the oldest churches of the Suzdal kremlin, presumably built in the early 17th century. After the fire of 1719 it was rebuilt in the Naryshkin Baroque style, rare for Suzdal at the time. This style combines the splendor of the Baroque with elements of Russian architecture and is distinguished by openwork decoration and the contrast of red brick with white stone. Here rest the relics of St. Arseny of Suzdal, which are believed to heal children's illnesses.
