Teriberka is a small settlement on the Kola Peninsula that has become a true gem for travelers. On this route you'll understand why the village became the most Instagrammable place in Russia and feel the atmosphere of a real “edge of the earth.” Even the most demanding foodies will be delighted by the fresh local sea urchins and scallops. And with a bit of luck you can photograph real whales, seals and, of course, a sky lit up by the northern lights.

The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed

This art object by the St. Petersburg artist Ekaterina Golubina has nothing to do with the famous film of the same name. But the installation's name isn't accidental: it stands where the Teriberka River meets the Barents Sea, historically a gathering place for fishermen, who swapped news and experience here. A wooden boat is the installation's key element. Not all locals liked it, though; some say that at night it can look like a cemetery. This is tied to old fishing traditions: when a fisherman died, his boat was driven into the ground right on the shore. Perhaps that's why some villagers make that association.

Make a Wish

The boats on the platform are set at different distances from one another and point in different directions, and some face each other. Ekaterina Golubina designed it so that people could sit in them and interact. Interestingly, locals claim that if you make a wish while sitting in a boat, it's sure to come true! Many people come here simply to reflect or meditate, and some even arrange dates here. No surprise there: it's just as good a spot as meeting under the clock tower!
