Description
Tver “owes” its famous historic architecture to the fire of 1763, when almost the entire city burned down. To rebuild it, Empress Catherine II sent a team of architects to Tver that included P. R. Nikitin, M. Kazakov, V. Obukhov, A. Kvasov, and others. The jewel of the town plan was the “Versailles trident”: three rays of streets radiating from a single point, just as in St. Petersburg, Versailles, and Rome.
