Historical Background
Tver Gymnasium No. 6 is the oldest educational institution in the city of Tver. From 1905 its building was home to the Tver City Commercial School for Girls, built to a design by the architect A. P. Fyodorov in the historic part of Tver as part of the architectural ensemble of Cathedral Square. The subjects taught to the girls included bookkeeping, political economy, law, and commercial correspondence in Russian and foreign languages. Much attention was paid to the students' spiritual upbringing. Once, at the invitation of the school's director, Nikolai Rose, the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia gave a performance on the school's stage, showing Alexander Ostrovsky's play “Without a Dowry.”
