About the Sculpture
On December 5, 2023, the feast day of Prince Mikhail of Tver, a new monument was unveiled in the regional capital. The sculptural group, installed at the entrance to the Transfiguration of the Savior Cathedral, depicts the young Prince Mikhail and Bishop Simeon of Tver. They are discussing the building of the first stone church in Tver. Mikhail of Tver, who was 14 years old at the time, holds a scroll with the design of the church, while the bishop, seated on a stone, points out the place to build it and blesses the construction. The author of the monument is the sculptor Yuri Khmelevsky, an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. This sculptural composition symbolizes an important moment in Tver's history and pays tribute to its spiritual and cultural heritage.
