Historical Background
The government offices (prisutstvennye mesta) were the district's main administrative institution in the 17th–19th centuries. This building dates from the 1830s and stands inside the Belozersk rampart. Before this two-story building was put up, the offices were housed in a single-story stone building that has not survived. The new building was constructed in 1823. The stone outbuilding, converted into garages in the 20th century, may once have held a jail, quarters for the fire brigade and a stable. The facades are decorated in the Empire style.
