The Priamursky Zoo opened in October 2002 on 6.2 hectares (15 acres) of a picturesque hillside near Voronezh-2, close to the Amur River. Its spacious enclosures, blended naturally into the forest landscape, house some 60 species, about 170 animals in all, most of them native to the Russian Far East. None were caught in the wild for the zoo: it takes in animals that would not survive on their own, and often hand-rears orphaned cubs. The idea was born thirty years ago and came to life on the site of the former Liza Chaikina camp, after six Young Pioneer camps were handed over to the project.

In Memory of Heroes

The Garden of Memory is an environmental and patriotic campaign honoring the heroes of the Great Patriotic War (World War II) and the participants of the special military operation. It took place in May and June 2025 as part of an international initiative to commemorate the fallen. Its main goal is to plant 27 million trees in memory of the 27 million people who died during the war. Each tree became a symbol of gratitude and respect for the heroes and a reminder of how precious peace is. At the zoo the campaign was also dedicated to those killed in the special military operation, and the families of fallen servicemen took part. In all, the Garden of Memory brought together more than 500 Khabarovsk residents, including employees of local companies, schoolchildren, and students. A total of 229 tree and shrub saplings were planted.
