A Landmark in Itself
The map on the stand will help you get your bearings: it marks the homes of all the zoo's residents, shows a bird's-eye view, and offers plenty of interesting information. Nearby are enclosures and a petting farm.

The Priamursky Zoo opened in October 2002 on 6.2 hectares (15 acres) of a picturesque hillside near Voronezh-2, close to the Amur River. Its spacious enclosures, blended naturally into the forest landscape, house some 60 species, about 170 animals in all, most of them native to the Russian Far East. None were caught in the wild for the zoo: it takes in animals that would not survive on their own, and often hand-rears orphaned cubs. The idea was born thirty years ago and came to life on the site of the former Liza Chaikina camp, after six Young Pioneer camps were handed over to the project.

The zoo is home to Chilean alpacas Zlata, Ozzy, and Zefirka (“Little Marshmallow”). They are about two years old and came from the Mellian Alpakas spa center. Curious and calm, they gladly accept a pat and greet every new visitor with childlike wonder. The alpacas have come a long way: from Chile to Moscow, and then on to Khabarovsk. On December 25, 2025, they were joined by Lyalya the llama, who came from the Python Zoological Center in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Lyalya is a true society lady: friendly and very sociable, she turns every appearance into a little parade. She gently takes carrots and apples from your hand and happily sniffs the guests; the best time to meet her is on a warm afternoon walk.
Izumrud (“Emerald”) the peacock came to the zoo from the Moscow Zoo in 2021. He was three years old and already showing signs of maturity: he had begun to fan his tail. Filinya the eagle-owl is a wise creature of the night with huge, expressive eyes; the rustle of her wings at dusk always feels touching and mysterious. She is a large bird of prey with a wingspan of about 1.8 meters (5.9 feet). She came to the zoo in 2019 from a wildlife rehabilitation center in Primorye. Hunters found her with an injured wing; because of the injury she cannot fly and would not survive in the wild.
