Historical Background
Public theater as we understand it today traces its origins to a troupe of “amateur comedians”: Yakov Shumsky, Ivan Dmitrevsky, and their leader, director, and actor, the merchant's son Fyodor Grigorievich Volkov. In 1750 theater appeared in our country for the first time, in Yaroslavl. A hall seating 1,000 people, and the boundless enthusiasm of those who created the performances. And so: lights, curtain, music! Volkov creates the first Russian theater.
