Overview

Opposite the lindens sits a small bronze hedgehog, one of the fairy-tale miniature sculptures called “Svetlo-hedgehogs,” in the spirit of Kaliningrad's homlins (tiny bronze house sprites). The young artists who created them are said to have been inspired by the real hedgehogs that often scurry along the forest paths beyond Lake Tikhoye. There are 3 such Svetlo-hedgehogs around the lake in all.

How to Find Them

1. Opposite the ancient lindens is Pykhtik (“Little Puffer”), a hedgehog who found the briefcase of the famous German mathematician David Hilbert, whose villa stood nearby. The custom: rub the briefcase for luck before exams or any new venture. 2. By the Arch of Hearts (on the embankment, on the road side) are Hedgeo and Hedgiet. Note Hedgeo's sword: with it he defeated an envious snake that wanted to bite Hedgiet, and saved his beloved. The custom: rub Hedgiet's tummy and flick Hedgeo's sword for peace and harmony in the family. 3. By the rope park is Svetlik (“Little Light”). This baby hedgehog is the first and the dreamiest of the sculptures: people rub the paper boat on his head so that their dreams, especially dreams of travel, come true.
