Historical Background
This is the building of the Kimry Public Bank and the Moshkin Brothers' Bank. By the mid-19th century the village of Kimry had grown so large that residents began thinking about opening a bank. It opened in 1871 and did so well that in its first year it took in 180,357 rubles in deposits and issued 173,653 rubles in loans. In the early 20th century it was decided to rebuild the old bank, and in 1912 it took on the appearance it has kept to this day. It was redesigned in the Neo-Empire style, with half-columns on the second floor, a distinctive attic and a wide main entrance framed by two columns. After the revolution the bank closed, and the building went on to house an Institute of Marxism-Leninism, a music school and, in recent years, the city archive.
