Historical Background
This is the house that gave the street its name (Pochtovaya means “Post Street”). It was home to the first post office in Ryazan Governorate, built in 1784 to a design by the governorate architect I. G. Sulakadzev. It included “a warm room with a stove and samovar” where mail carriers could warm up in winter. The post office worked here until the early 1960s, when the modern main post office building was erected.
