Historical Background

The Eropkina House. This was home to the city's first photo studio, where people of Ryazan had their pictures taken at the turn of the 20th century. Many photo cards with the imprint “Photogr. Eropkina in Ryazan” have survived. Around the same time, an apartment on the second floor was rented by the Ryazan official Ivan Petrovich Zabela. One of his daughters, the Russian singer Nadezhda Zabela, wife, “muse,” and model for many works of the artist Mikhail Vrubel, would visit her father on Seminarskaya with her husband. His fairy-tale “Swan Princess” and “Snow Maiden” bear Nadezhda Zabela's features.
