Historical Background

Back in the 19th century the city's first fire brigade was founded on this spot, protecting what was then a largely wooden town from fire. To keep watch over the city, a fire tower was built on Seminarskaya Street, and it survives to this day. Today the building houses the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Ryazan region.
